Driving sustainability into operational delivery
Building sustainability into the core of the business is a essential part of the sustainability transition. While elements of sustainability have always been a part of business delivery, the process, systems and overall operations where not designed with sustainability in mind - and the focus of operational sustainability redesign is to create a staged approach to rectify this.
Tools provided: Sustainable operations business redesign
The focus of this toolkit is to support businesses developing their strategies, redesigning the business, creation of the investment cases/delivery plan and migration to create new operating models to enable companies to become sustainable businesses in their core operations. In order to be able to do this, at the Chestnut tree partnership we split the work into three stages of delivery. These are not necessarily delivered stage by stage, but splitting them in this way highlight the degree of change (from product to go to market strategy) and investment that each stage requires. The three key stages are:
1. Driving efficiency, waste management and optimising existing delivery
2. Redesign core elements of the process to build in sustainability constraints
3. Redesign of the manufacturing process and core products to build sustainability in at the core of business delivery

These elements are described in more detail in the diagram below.

Examples of work delivered
Operations work has been a mix of more incremental changes to the business through to radically rethinking what operations means with sustainability at the core
